Winter Gas Bills Projected to be Significantly Lower This Year

INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group announced today natural gas bills will be much lower than last winter (November through March) if temperatures are normal. The average residential gas bill during that time was about $584. This year, assuming normal weather and typical usage, the average residential natural gas bill will be about $475 or about 19% less than last year.

Natural gas prices are not set by local utilities but rather by the market forces of supply and demand. Prices have fallen significantly in the past five years because of increases in U.S. production. Natural gas costs are passed on to customers on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
“We are very pleased the drop in natural gas has a positive impact on our customers,” said Jeff Harrison, President and CEO of Citizens Energy Group. “Natural gas continues to be a stable, clean-burning fuel source. Even with the decrease, we understand some customers may still struggle to pay their bill so we continue to offer financial assistance.”
