Water Usage Falls 40 Million Gallons Over Past Two Days

INDIANAPOLIS – Water usage across the Citizens Water system has declined about 40 million gallons per day as mandatory water use restrictions were implemented on Friday. Usage has dropped more than 70 million gallons per day since an all-time single day usage record was established on June 26.

The decline in water use has allowed Citizens to reduce withdrawals from Morse Reservoir by 20 million gallons per day (MGD) and by 5 MGD from Geist Reservoir. While usage levels continue to decline, water levels at area reservoirs will continue to fall due to lack of rain and releases to maintain stream flow and water supply for customers.

Reservoir Levels (7/14)
  • Morse Level: 804.33 (down 5.67 feet from full)
  • Geist Level: 783.08 (down 1.92 feet from full)
  • Eagle Creek Level: 787.82 (down 2.18 from full)
Daily Releases (7/15)
  • Morse: 65 MGD (Reduced to 45 MGD on 7/15)
  • Geist: 43 MGD (Reduced to 38 MGD on 7/15)
  • Eagle Creek: 6.0 MGD
