State Utility Moratorium Ends Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group today announced that starting Saturday, March 16, the state moratorium on utility disconnection ends. Utility disconnections will begin on Monday, March 18. The utility moratorium protects customers who qualify for the Indiana Energy Assistance Program (EAP) from being disconnected during winter months. Customers not receiving state energy assistance are subject to disconnection for non-payment throughout the year.

“While the state moratorium is ending, Citizens understands some customers will still struggle to pay their heating bill, especially if the unseasonably cold temperatures last,” said Carey Lykins, President and CEO of Citizens Energy Group. “Because of that anticipated need, financial assistance is still available.”

For any customer who has yet to apply, Community Action of Greater Indianapolis (CAGI) and the John H. Boner Center are still accepting applications for assistance through the EAP. To qualify, contact CAGI at 524-6966 or John H. Boner at 808-2378 to schedule an appointment. Customers can also call Connect to Help at 211 for information on other sources of energy assistance.

For those customers who have already received assistance and are behind on bills, Citizens is offering flexible payment arrangements, including weekly and bi-weekly payment plans. Please contact Citizens at 924-3311 to make arrangements before your service is disconnected.
