Kids Get Creative about Conserving Energy

INDIANAPOLIS – Winter weather will soon be upon us and conserving energy can save money and the environment. With the help of the Indianapolis Colts, Citizens Energy Group is making this valuable lesson fun.

“At Citizens, we believe providing energy education to elementary school age children is essential for developing good habits they can take into adulthood,” said Carey Lykins, President and CEO of Citizens Energy Group. “It’s also important to make learning about conservation fun and engaging, which the poster contest and partnership with the Colts certainly are.”

In concert with the National Energy Foundation and in partnership with the Indianapolis Colts, Citizens is challenging Marion County students (kindergarten to grade 8) to a creative competition. The rules are simple-- students should create a unique poster explaining ways to conserve energy and water in their community and at home. Teachers must submit entries by October 25, 2013. Entries will be judged on how effectively students convey their message. Three grand prize winners will be selected in each category:  grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8.

How to Enter

  • By going to CitizensEnergySavers.com, clicking on the poster contest icon and registering online, teachers can request the Citizens Energy Savers project pack. Teachers can also call 801-377-9500 x 132. The project pack includes an instructional poster, classroom supply of posters with entry forms and a business reply envelope for submitting completed posters.
  • Students must complete the official entry form on the backside of the poster.
  • All student entries must be submitted together in the business reply envelope provided in the contest packet.

  • Winners will be notified in December 2013.
  • The grand prize winner in each category and their teacher will receive an iPad®
  • The grand prize winner in each category will receive four (4) Indianapolis Colts game tickets to the December 29th Colts game vs. Jacksonville and be recognized on the field.
