Citizens Selected as Baldrige Award Finalist

Indianapolis- Citizens Energy Group announced today its selection as a finalist for the 2014 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The National Institute of Standards and Technology manages the Baldrige program and has selected Citizens as one of nine organizations in the U.S. to receive a site visit by a team of Baldrige examiners.

“Being a finalist for the Baldrige Award for the second time in three years is a tremendous achievement and a testament to Citizens’ commitment to safety, customer satisfaction, operational excellence and continuous improvement,” said Carey Lykins, President and CEO of Citizens Energy Group. “While receiving a Baldrige Award would be a great honor, continuous improvement has always been our primary reason for participating in the Baldrige process.”

Since the late 1980s, Citizens has focused on continually improving customer satisfaction and promoting overall performance excellence. Citizens uses a number of tools to measure quality including the Criteria for Performance Excellence, commonly known as the Baldrige Criteria. Thousands of organizations worldwide use the Baldrige Criteria to guide their operations, improve performance and to obtain sustainable results.

The Baldrige site visit will take place October 13-17. Baldrige examiners will visit Citizens’ general office on Meridian Street and Citizens’ water, gas and thermal facilities. The 2014 Baldrige Award recipients will be selected in late November.
