Citizens Reopens Tuesday, January 7

INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group will reopen Tuesday, January 7 after being closed Monday, January 6 due to severe weather.  Citizens will operate with a limited staff and will place priority on emergency calls regarding low water pressure, water main breaks, and customers without heat. Citizens' Customer Service Lobby will be open, but customers with non-emergency issues are asked to come in when Citizens is fully staffed on Wednesday, January 8.

As freezing temperatures continue to plague Central Indiana, Citizens reminds customers of the following tips:

Safely Heat Your Home

  • Everyone should have a working smoke alarm on each level of their home and at least one carbon monoxide alarm in their home. Batteries should be checked monthly.
  • If using a space heater, keep it away from flammable items like furniture and draperies. Avoid using fuel burning space heaters indoors as they can create deadly carbon monoxide.
  • Don't heat your home with a gas oven. Long-term, continuous use of a natural gas oven can create a buildup of carbon monoxide in your home that can be harmful or even fatal.

Avoid Frozen Pipes

  • Leave a stream of water trickling in at least one sink in your home.
  • Insulate pipes that may be exposed to cold air.
  • Make sure the lid on your water meter pit is tightly secured.
  • Open cabinet doors to keep warm air circulating around pipes.
