Citizens Energy Group Exceeds Supplier Diversity Goals

INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group announced today it has exceeded supplier diversity goals established in 2011 when the company acquired the community’s water and wastewater utilities.

In 2011, Citizens committed to achieving 15 percent of addressable spending with minority-owned business enterprises (MBE), 8 percent with women-owned enterprises (WBE) and 3 percent with veteran-owned enterprises (VBE). In 2015, Citizens exceeded these goals with $128.6 million of spending with diverse suppliers.

Eligible Expenditures $364.2 million % of Eligible Total Supplier Diversity Goals
MBE Expenditures $63.4 million 17.5% 15%
WBE Expenditures $49.8 million 13.7% 8%
VBE Expenditures $15.4 million 4.2% 3%
Total MBE/WBE/VBE $128.6 million 35% 26%
“This important accomplishment reflects Citizens’ commitment to diversity, which is one of our core values, and a key to serving our customers and communities with unparalleled excellence and integrity,” said Jeffrey Harrison, Citizens President and CEO. “Our ongoing commitment to advancing diversity is critical to making Citizens a better place to work, a more successful provider of utility services, and a more responsible corporate citizen.”
Citizens’ supplier diversity success is a product of an active outreach program targeting MBE, WBE and VBE businesses to help them better understand the company’s needs and our vendor requirements, according to Richard Wise, Citizens Supplier Diversity Program Administrator.
“Citizens Energy Group’s unwavering commitment to supplier diversity is being widely recognized by important stakeholders such as the Mid-States Minority Supplier Development Council and the National Association of Women Business Owners-Indianapolis,” said Wise. “We look forward to working with these and other stakeholders to further expand our supplier diversity program.”
