Citizens Energy Group Closed January 6

INDIANAPOLIS – Due to severe weather, Citizens Energy Group will be closed Monday, January 6. This closure includes Citizens Customer Service Lobby, Customer Service Call Center, Business to Business Call Center and calls involving rental units. In addition, crews will not read water or gas meters.

Citizens will continue responding to emergency calls, such as those involving water main breaks, gas leaks and customers without heat. Citizens will not disconnect customers for non-payment during the storm event. If you have an emergency, call 924-3311.

Citizens urges customers to take time to safeguard your home during the storm event by practicing these simple tips:

Safely Heat Your Home

  • Everyone should have a working smoke alarm on each level of their home and at least one carbon monoxide alarm in their home. Batteries should be checked monthly.
  • If using a space heater, keep it away from flammable items like furniture and draperies. Avoid using fuel burning space heaters indoors as they can create deadly carbon monoxide.
  • Don't heat your home with a gas oven. Long-term, continuous use of a natural gas oven can create a buildup of carbon monoxide in your home that can be harmful or even fatal.

Avoid Frozen Pipes

  • Leave a stream of water trickling in at least one sink in your home.
  • Insulate pipes that may be exposed to cold air.
  • Make sure the lid on your water meter pit is tightly secured.
  • Open cabinet doors to keep warm air circulating around pipes.
