Citizens Employee John Anderson Honored with Jefferson Award

INDIANAPOLIS – John Anderson, Steam Distribution Operator for Citizens Energy Group, has been honored as a recipient of the Jefferson Awards Gold Medal for 2012.
The Jefferson Awards program is intended to be a “Nobel Prize” for public service, and aims to honor people who are typically looked upon as unsung heroes in their community. Anderson was chosen by the Jefferson Award’s Employee Volunteer Support Committee, and will join other award recipients throughout the U.S. for a two-day celebration and recognition in Washington, D.C. this June.
Anderson was specifically recognized for the development and growth of the Marty Williams Ride, Bike and Car Show over the past 10 years. The show is held annually in the memory of the late Marty Williams, a Citizens employee who died in a tragic workplace accident in 2002. From 2002-2006 the event raised about $15,000 for the education of Marty Williams children. From 2007 to 2012 the event raised $25,000 for the families of burn victims treated at Wishard Hospital.
In addition to his leadership role in the Marty Williams event, Anderson and his wife Kimberly have been foster parents to 19 children.
“By always putting his family and community first, John Anderson embodies the values of the Jefferson Awards. We congratulate John on this prestigious honor and thank him for giving back so selflessly to his community,” said Carey Lykins, President & CEO of Citizens Energy Group.
Anderson joins five other Citizens employees who have been recognized over the past 6 years with a Jefferson Award.

Citizens is a Champion Company for the Jefferson Awards. The Champion program offers corporations and other organizations such as universities, local government, and non-profits, a turnkey system that rewards, honors and encourages community volunteerism for their employees.  Although many champion companies select recipients throughout the year, Citizens Energy Group only selects one award recipient at the end of each calendar year.  That one person will represent Citizens at a number of local events and in Washington D.C.
