- For the second time in two years, Citizens Energy Group’s Diversity and Inclusion Team was honored with a prestigious national award recognizing the team’s commitment to promote diversity. The award was presented at the 8th Annual Employee Resource Group (ERG) conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ERG & Council Honors Award™ recognizes the outstanding contributions and achievements of diversity teams nationwide in these four categories: Demonstrated Program Results, Management Commitment, Measurement and Accountability and Communication and Education.
In 2015, as a first-time applicant, Citizens ranked 13th out of 538 applicants. This year, Citizens improved its ranking to 4th in the exclusive Leader's Circle Network designed only for the top 10 recipients. The 2016 applicant pool was up 20% from last year with 1,279. The ERG’s associate director described this year’s application process as the most competitive to date.
“At Citizens, we are deeply committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce,” said Jeffrey Harrison, President and CEO of Citizens. “Whether hiring new employees, training current employees or selecting vendors with which we do business, Citizens prioritizes our commitment to diversity.”
In an effort to ensure we hire a diverse workforce, Citizens is also a State of Indiana Veteran Opportunity Partner. When veterans visit the Department of Veteran Affairs resource website, Citizens is listed as veteran-friendly company. A click on our company logo directs veteran job seekers to our career portal. Citizens’ other diversity initiatives include partnerships with organizations that serve diverse populations, promote college and high school internship or apprenticeship programs, support people with all disabilities and provide inclusive service and community volunteer opportunities.
“We are proud of the value our diverse workforce brings not only to Citizens, but also to the community,” said Harrison. “I would also like to acknowledge Yvonne N. Perkins, former Vice President, Corporate Communications and Chief Diversity Officer, who was the architect of our company’s diversity and inclusion strategic plan. Yvonne’s guidance and leadership was instrumental in our receiving this high honor. This award is especially significant to all of us at Citizens this year as Yvonne passed away on November 10, 2016.”
