Fortune 100 Pharmaceutical Company

Chilled Water Plant Construction and Operation – In 1996 Citizens contracted with a Fortune 100 Pharmaceutical Company to design, build, own and operate a 20,000 ton chilled water plant and provide chilled water service to the customer through a 20 year service contract. The plant (Indianapolis Campus Energy, Inc.) is owned by Citizens and located on property adjacent to the customer’s manufacturing facility. The facility is managed and staffed by Citizens personnel.

Comprehensive On-site Utility Management – In 2002, Citizens contracted with a Fortune 100 Pharmaceutical Company to provide comprehensive on-site utility management services at two corporate campus locations. Citizens received this customer’s Supplier of the Year Award in 2004. A new services contract was executed in 2007 that expanded Citizens’ scope of work and extended services though 2013. Currently, over 50 Citizens employees report to the two customer campus locations each day including managers, engineers, operators, maintenance mechanics, control technicians and electricians. Citizens’ responsibilities include on-site utility management, operation, maintenance, capital project planning and execution, metric analysis and customer service for various utility systems and functions including:

Indianapolis International Airport

Central Energy Plant Management - In 2006, a Citizens affiliate minority partnership (BHMM Energy Services) contracted with the Indianapolis International Airport Authority to manage, operate and maintain the Central Energy Plant at the Indianapolis International Airport. The Central Energy plant provides steam, chilled water, compressed air, backup electric generation and fire protection service to the Indianapolis Maintenance Center, which provides contract maintenance services for several large national airlines. The Central plant also provides chilled water and hot water service for the new state-of-the-art Midfield Terminal.

Utility Connector Construction Project – In 2006, Citizens’ scope of work was expanded to include design and construction of a $30 million utility connector project to serve the new Midfield Terminal. The project included construction of high pressure hot water and chilled water pipelines from the existing energy plant (under an active airport runway) to the Midfield Terminal. The project was completed on schedule and under budget in September 2007.

University, Hospital and Research Campus

Distribution System Maintenance - In addition to providing district steam and chilled water services to the IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis) campus, Riley Hospital for Children, Indiana University Hospital, and related healthcare research institutions in downtown Indianapolis, Citizens operates and maintains the campus owned steam and chilled water distribution systems that connect these vital facilities.

Chiller Plant Operation - Citizens leases, operates and maintains a 5,500 ton chilled water plant located on the IUPUI campus that is used to support and serve the campus and the Citizens downtown chilled water system.
